KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Friday remanded in Railway police custody three suspects held for allegedly subjecting a young woman to gang rape in the Bahaudin Zakaria Express.

The suspects, all employees of the privately-run train, have been held for sexually assaulting the 25-year-old victim on May 27.

The incident had sent shockwaves nationwide drawing criticism for the railways authorities for failing to ensure safety of female passengers.

On Friday, the ivestigating officer produced the suspects before Judicial Magistrate Shahnawaz to seek their remand.

He informed the magistrate that the suspects’ custody was required to interrogate them in connection with the offence.
