SHANGLA: Sixteen people, including women and children, were injured, some of them critically, when a passenger van fell into a ravine in Bisham tehsil here on Friday.

The vehicle was going to Bisham city from Kormang on Friday morning.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Rasool Khan told Dawn that the van with 16 passengers on board skidded off the road and plunged into a ravine, injuring all onboard. He said rescue teams retrieved the injured and shifted them to a hospital.

He said two of the injured men in critical condition were referred to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad.

Meanwhile, the candidates shortlisted for appointment in the prison department’s Haripur circle have demanded of the government to issue their appointment letters without delay.

Talking to reporters on Friday, they said 370 candidates had been shortlisted for the jobs after they had passed physical and written tests held in March.

Suleman from Maira Bisham said most of the 370 candidates were children of coal miners.

Abdul Basit Khan from Chakesar said delay in their recruitment had disappointed them as most of the candidates were very poor. He said the job seekers had submitted an application to minister for labour and culture Shaukat Yousafzai to take up the matter with the officials of the prison department.
