RAWALPINDI: More than 65 incidents of street crime including theft of 22 motorcycles and three cars, eight robberies, and 17 incidents of general theft involving 22 mobile phones and other valuables were reported to the district police.
All the incidents were registered on Saturday and investigation was launched. However, no one has been arrested yet and none of the valuables were recovered.
Mansab Khan informed Ratta police that he was with his friend when all of a sudden three unidentified persons appeared at the scene and held them at gunpoint and snatched Rs9,500 and two mobile phones from them.
Ibrar Aziz was on his way home from Siddiqui chowk when he was deprived of cash and his mobile phone by two unidentified motorcycle riders. Mohammad Amjad was robbed of Rs51,000 and a mobile phone by two unidentified robbers in Naseerabad area while Mohammad Usman, a resident of Wah was robbed of Rs53,000 and a mobile phone by two unidentified robbers.
Mohammad Sheraz’s car worth Rs2 million was stolen from outside a hospital in Taxila, Saad Raza’s car was stolen from Banni area, Mohammad Ismail’s car was stolen from New Town while Afzal Ahmad’s carry van worth Rs1.1 million was stolen from Westridge.
Mohammad Bilal was deprived of his mobile phone and motorcycle by two unidentified gunmen in Mandra area. Mohammad Noman Aslam was robbed of Rs40,000 after being threatened by two unidentified robbers in Jatli area.
Mohammad Arif, resident of Dhamial told police that unidentified thieves broke into his house and stole Rs75,000, an electric motor and other valuables. Mohammad Daud, Khizir Hayat, Salar Khan, Mohammad Abdullah, Mohammad Jamil, Faisal Saeed, Naeem Akhtar, Shahzad Khan, Ahmad Nadeem, Haroon Zaib, Mohammad Azam, Aurangzaib, Adnan, Abdul Majid, Waqar Ali Kiani, Rais Abbas, Waqar Ali, Waqar Qadir and Hafiz Ahmad Bilal were among those whose motorcycles were stolen from different parts of the district.
According to police statistics, there has been a 17pc increase in the theft of motorcycles and 18 percent rise in the snatching of motorcycles at gunpoint in the district.
The statistics showed that 1,896 motorcycles were stolen and 117 had been snatched at gunpoint by unidentified persons so far this year compared to the 1,568 motorcycles stolen and 93 snatched at gunpoint in 2021.
