HARIPUR: A former National Assembly candidate, who was attacked on Tuesday, succumbed to injuries in Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, on Wednesday afternoon, police and family sources said.

Police quoted Naseem Shah as saying that he and his brother, Farooq Shah, a former JUI-F candidate for the NA seat in Haripur, were sitting in a shop of Haji Fayyaz, a property dealer, on Monday evening to settle dispute over transfer of property rights of a plot. In the meantime, he said an exchange of heated arguments took place between them and the other party.

He said Haji Fayyaz, Mohammad Riaz, and Haji Riaz opened fire, leaving Farooq Shah critically injured.

He said the injured was rushed to the trauma centre, wherefrom doctors referred him to Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, where he succumbed to injuries.

Doctors at the trauma centre said the victim received two bullet shots in the head.

The slain leader, who hailed from Kheroch village of Sirikot, has been contesting elections to provincial and National Assembly from Ghazi tehsil since 1997. During the 2018 elections, he could bag only a few hundred votes.
