After government servants in Balochistan persisted with their demand for the payment of Disparity Reduction Allowance (DRA), the government agreed to move ahead, but has adopted a bizarre formula under which employees getting low salaries have been kept out of the loop, while those up the pecking order stand to benefit, increasing the disparity and demoralising the low-salaried employees. The authorities concerned should resolve the issue immediately.

GARBAGE DISPOSAL: Moving around the city of Naushahro Feroze one feels there is no administration in place. The trash doesn’t get collected by any agency, giving the whole city an ugly sight. With heaps and mounds of garbage all over the place, it is only understandable that diseases of various kinds are rampant. Even the hospitals are dirty. The city and its people certainly deserve better.

TOOTHLESS LAW: The National Accountability Bill (Second Amendment) 2021 passed by parliament has left the accountability mechanism like a vehicle left with no wheels in a junkyard waiting for the heavy punch from the crusher. To prosecute someone under the revised ordinance will be tough. There is a lot of room for the accused persons to manoeuvre their way out of their respective tight spots. The matter needs to be revised.

BUS SERVICE: Public transport facilities are pathetic between Chunian and Lahore. The busses are obsolete, and the non-functional air-conditioners are there only to lure unsuspecting passengers. On the other hand, bus fares are way too high compared to the standard of services provided. There is only one bus service on the route and the monopoly has allowed the operator to get away with just about anything. The local administration should take immediate notice of the poor condition of the buses on the route.
