DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A fire broke out in a three-storey business centre in the city here the other day, reducing goods worth millions of rupees to ashes.

Rescue 1122 firefighters with the help of locals contained the blaze after a five-hour effort.

A rescue official said the fire broke out at the upper floor of the centre in Kalan Bazaar near Chugliya, engulfing the entire building within minutes. The fire was so intense that flames and smoke could be seen from afar.

Rescue 1122 firefighters and fire brigade vehicles rushed to the spot and started extinguishing the blaze. The locals also participated in the rescue effort. However, due to severity of the blaze, fire tenders were called from across the district and nearby shops and houses were evacuated.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze after a five-hour-long operation, preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby shops and homes.

Goods worth millions of rupees in the three-storey centre and a warehouse were burnt to ashes.

The Anjuman-i-Tajran demanded financial assistance for the affected trader.
