LAHORE: The body of an assistant commissioner (AC) revenue was found hanging from a ceiling fan of his official residence in the GOR in the Faisal Town area on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Imran Raza Shamsi (45).

Police recovered the body from his room where he was living alone. The family of the deceased refused to carry out a post-mortem.

Some medicines, meant to fight psychological disorders or mental stress, were also found in the room.

Lahore Operations DIG Sohail Chaudhry told Dawn police were alerted by the deceased’s official driver when he found the body hanging from the ceiling fan. He said Shamsi was recently transferred from Islamabad to Lahore and his sudden and mysterious death had shocked his colleagues and batch mates.

The DIG declared it a suicide incident, saying it was yet to be ascertained as to why the deceased took this extreme step. Initially, it seemed that the deceased was disturbed due to some family issues, he added.

To a question, the DIG said that Imran Raza Shamsi had requested the Lahore Division Commissioner for his transfer to any other suitable place as he was unwilling to work at his new post in Lahore. He added that drugs recovered from his room showed that he was on medication for psychological reasons.

The DIG further said no suicide note was found from the room as was claimed by a section of the media.

The forensic experts and the police officials isolated the room for investigation, collected some samples, including the fingerprints of the deceased, for analysis.

According to media reports, the officer had earlier worked as the director anti-corruption in Faisalabad and Bahawalpur.
