KOHAT: The Water Supply and Sanitation Company (WSSC), Kohat, announced at a briefing on Thursday that the problems of water shortage and sewerage would be resolved on permanent basis under the Rs4.5 billion Khyber Pakhtunkhwa City Infrastructure Project (KPCIP).

The announcement was made at a function chaired by district development advisory committee chairman MPA Ziaullah Khan Bangash and attended by women, elders and WSSC general manager projects Mian Moshin Gul.

The women participants deplored the acute shortage of water in the hot weather due to which the people were forced to buy water tankers.

Moshin Gul said on the occasion that the trouble was being caused due to prolonged power outages which did not allow the pumps to run at full capacity to fill the overhead tanks. Therefore, water could not be released under full pressure to reach the houses, he said.

He said that under the KPCIP 34 tubewells would be solarised, 305km of pipelines replaced, 10 new tubewells installed and 11 water storage reservoirs would be built besides the sewage treatment plant at KDA and a landfill.

The conference held under the auspices of Kohat Qaumi Tehreek was attended by former minority councillor Javed Nacheez, JUI-F councillor Mubashir Naz, Sikh leaders, Hindu pundits, Qaumi Tehreek chairman Ameer Khan Afridi, poet Mohammad Jan Atif, Qaumi Watan Party divisional president Mahmoodul Islam advocate and tehsil bazaar president Baz Mohammad Khattak.
