HYDERABAD, Dec 11: Demonstrations in protest against the Kalabagh dam and the greater Thal canal were held in all district headquarters of the province on Sunday on a call given by the Sindhi Adabi Sangat. In Hyderabad, scores of writers and political activists staged a demonstration outside the press club.
They were led by the central secretary general of the Sangat, Prof Taj Joyo, and coordination secretary Moula Bux Kaka.
They demanded that members of the Sindh Assembly should resign instead of supporting what they called anti-Sindh projects.
LARKANA: A procession was taken out in Qambar on Sunday on the call of the Sangat.
The procession started from union council-2 and after marching through various roads reached the press club.
Riazat Buriro, Qamaruddin Qamar and Bhaoo Buriro on the occasion said the dam would destroy fertile lands in Thatta and Badin districts.
Renowned poet Sarkash Sindhi observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.
NAWABSHAH: A protest demonstration was held outside the press club against the Kalabagh dam and the greater Thal canal. Fayaz Chand Kaleri, Bakhshal Bagi, Preetam Kazi, Zarab Hyder, Zohaib Zardari and Sattar Sunder said the Sindh Assembly had adopted resolutions against the dam.
THATTA: The call of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat received a positive response in the Thatta district. A protest rally, led by Dr Mohammad Ali Manjhi, former PPP MNA Babu Ghulam Hussain Memon, Bilawal Samoo and Adam Gandro, was taken out which ended at the press club.
KHAIRPUR: Writers, poets and social workers took out processions in Khairpur, Priyaloi, Ranipur and Kumb and staged a demonstration outside the Khairpur press club.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Members of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat took out processions in Naushahro Feroze and Moro.
In Naushahro Feroze, activists were led by Gul Moro.
They observed a sit-in at the Allahwala chowk on the National Highway.
The protesters said growers of Sindh were already facing shortage of water and the dam would further deprive them of water.
DADU: Writers and activists belonging to various political parties took out a procession in Mehar on Sunday.
Activists of political parties and writers led by Lahno Jamali and treasurer Wazir Mangi marched in the Dadu town to record their protest.
