QUETTA: Four women and a man were killed when raging torrents swept away a truck in Kat-Mondai area of Sibi on Sunday.

A rock fell on the truck after being struck by the speeding vehicle, killing the five persons on the spot and injuring three others.

According to Levies, the tragedy took place when the truck tried to cross the Beji river despite heavy floods. “The truck was carrying about 25 people and their livestock,” according to Bahadur Khan, an eyewitness who was injured in the accident.

The dead were identified as Ghulam Bakhsh, Mir Khatoon, Soni and Rani. One of the deceased women remained unidentified.

The water level is rising steadily in the Nari and Bolan rivers after heavy rains lashed their catchment areas, including Harnai and Ziarat, over the past week.

The Met Office forecast rains in parts of Balochistan for Monday and Tuesday. The rains may cause floods in some areas, according to the forecast.
