PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party leaders and workers on Tuesday paid rich tribute to former prime minister Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on the occasion of her 69th birth anniversary and vowed to fulfil her mission of strengthening democracy and ensuring welfare of poor people.

Peoples Lawyers Forum (PLF), founders of Peoples Students Federation in the province, PPP city unit and women wing organised separate cake cutting ceremonies and recalled the services late Benazir Bhutto had rendered for the welfare of farmers, labourers and other poor people in the country.

A number of senior leaders, including former governor Barrister Masood Kausar, former provincial president Syed Zahir Ali Shah, provincial senior vice-president Syed Ayub Shah, PPP culture wing chief Khwaja Yawar Naseer, former Peshawar district nazim Azam Afridi, former MNA Akhunzada Chattan and others, attended a function organised by founders of PSF in the province.

Another event was organised by PLF, which was addressed by PPP city district former president Zulfiqar Afghani, Peshawar division information secretary Tariq Raheem and Tila Mohammad.

PPP activists mark former PM’s 69th birth anniversary

The speakers said that Benazir Bhutto was not only the first woman prime minister of Pakistan, but also in the Muslim world, who played an active role to represent the country at global level in a befitting manner.

They said that by adhering to the philosophy of late Benazir Bhutto the party people would continue struggle to eradicate poverty and unemployment from the country as well as to ensure socioeconomic justice by strengthening democracy and rule of law.

“It is the victory of the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto that the democratic forces in the country are united and determined to take the country out of the difficulties,” they said.

The party leaders said the world leadership had acknowledged the leadership ability and political insight of late Benazir Bhutto. The purpose of her life, they said, was to provide social and economic justice to the people by rescuing them from poverty, unemployment and economic misery. They vowed to fulfil the mission of Benazir Bhutto.

Another event was held under the aegis of PPP women wing where provincial president Senator Rubina Khalid, MPA Nighat Orakzai and others shared views about the life and role of Benazir Bhutto.

They vowed to continue the struggle for welfare of low-income group and strengthening of democracy as per instruction of the party leadership.

Meanwhile, former provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan, Peshawar division president Liaquat Shabab, Abrar Khan Nahqai and Tariq Raheem in their separate statements paid tribute to late Benazir Bhutto and vowed to continue her mission for strengthening of democracy in the country.
