DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Several people suffering from gastroenteritis were hospitalised here the other day, prompting the health department to send a medical team to the affected Zafarabad Colony here.

Residents said gastroenteritis spread in the locality after people consumed sewage-mixed water from a supply line. They said several people were suffering from different stomach-related diseases.

Deputy commissioner Inayatullah Wasim took notice of the situation and directed the health department to take steps to control the disease.

The health teams examined patients in the area and referred some of them to the District Headquarters Hospital.

The teams also checked the pipelines supplying water to the area and collected samples for laboratory test.

Deputy district health officer Dr Hafiz Mohammad Farooq Gul Bhittani told the media that the department was making efforts to control the disease.
