KHAIRPUR, Dec 12: Sindh People’s Party Parliamentarians president Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that President Gen Musharraf’s announcement about constructing the Kalabagh dam was aimed at creating a political unrest in the country.

He was talking to newsmen at the residence of Zaman Shah Rashdi here on Sunday.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that under the pressure of President Musharraf, the Sindh chief minister had launched the campaign in favour of the Kalabagh dam but he would not succeed.

He said that construction of the dam would create turmoil in the country because this would be against public opinion in three smaller provinces as their provincial assemblies had passed resolutions against the dam.

He said that the government was raising the issue to divert attention from the victims of earthquake and other problems.

He said the federal and the Sindh government had failed to provide jobs to people and kept them on false promises.

He said that it was former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who gave awareness to masses, that is why the people of Pir Jo Goth were with the PPP.

He said that the PML-F leadership had always ruled people through political victimisation and they did not believe in people’s power.

About removal of the PPP district president and general secretary in Khairpur, he said that both the office bearers had enjoyed respective offices for about seven years, whereas, now party has decided that the office bearers would be chosen for a maximum period of three years and those who were taking out protest processions were violating the party disciplines.

Samiullah Shah Rashdi, Babul Makrani, Parvez Abbasi, Ali Gohar Kanhar and others also spoke on the occasion.

Killed: A man killed his sister on Sunday night when she tried to stop him from taking narcotics.

Sikander Ali Tagar killed Ms Waziran, 35, wife of Ali Bux, in the Lal Bux Tagar village of the Kingri taluka.

The body was handed over to her relatives after post-mortem conducted at the rural health centre of Pir Jo Goth on Monday.

The complainant, Nadir Ali, has lodged an FIR with the Ahmedpur police against Sikander Ali Tagar.
