KOHAT: The Ulema Council, Kohat division chapter, has called upon the government to take action against the elements disturbing peace in the Kurram district.

The demand was made at a meeting of the council held here on Sunday presided over by Maulana Mufti Mohammad Mujahid. The participants appealed to the government to pay the compensation to the victims of the 2008 strife to help them rebuild their houses and shops. They pointed out that the victims were paid one-time Rs350,000 each against their demand of Rs3.5 million, which was insufficient to reconstruct their houses and shops.

The participants said the administration should also implement a plan to establish a new housing colony outside Parachinar for the displaced tribesmen.

They also condemned the murder of an elder and his two companions in Sadda tehsil of Kurram and demanded the early arrest of killers.

They also sought implementation of all the peace accords in letter and spirit. They said all routes to Parachinar must be made safe for travel.

ARRESTED: The police on Sunday arrested the main suspect of a double murder.

SHO cantonment Afzal Awan told mediapersons that they had already arrested two suspects, Usman and Rashid, who had been nominated in the FIR.

He said the prime suspect, namely Abid, was arrested from his house in Nasratkhel area, where the bodies of two persons were found near a stream.
