ISLAMABAD: Reiterating the government’s commitment towards improving the healthcare system in Pakistan, Senate Chairman Mohammad Sadiq Sanjrani on Monday expressed the hope that the World Health Organisation (WHO) would continue to provide support to the country.

WHO Country Representative to Pakistan Dr Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala called on Mr Sanjrani at the Parliament House to discuss WHO’s key programmes in the country.

The Senate chairman commended Dr Palitha for the work being done by the WHO to help control the spread of Covid-19 and appreciated the consistent support provided by the organisation towards enriching the healthcare system in Pakistan.

According to a statement, Dr Palitha appreciated the timely response of the government of Pakistan to the threat of Covid-19, including screening facilities at airports and establishing quarantine and isolation centres, which has helped control the epidemic in the country.

He lauded work being done by the National Institute of Health (NIH).

The Senate chairman said measures to curb spread of polio need to be intensified.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Abdul Qadir Patel has urged parents to get their children vaccinated against polio. The virus is in the environment and we can only eradicate it by ensuring that every child is immunised against it, according to a statement.
