LAKKI MARWAT: Two people were killed and 11 others injured when a man opened fire on worshippers at a mosque in Esakkhel village of Lakki Marwat here on Friday.

A police official said that the villagers had gathered in the mosque for Friday prayers and were offering Dua after the prayers when the attacker opened fire.

The gunman, identified as Shafiq, escaped the area after the attack.

The official said that the attacker had a dispute with a villager, namely Inayatur Rehman, over an electricity connection.

“Inayatur Rehman, 28, and Hamid Nawaz, 25, were killed in the attack,” he maintained, saying that the inured included Faizullah, 70, Nasrullah, 50, Qudratullah, 24, Asif Khan, 34, Mohammad Danyal, 7, Abdul Ghaffar, 55, Faizan, 12, Attaur Rehman, 21, Haq Nawaz, 56, Rafiq, 34, and Waheed, 33.

The official said that the dead and the wounded were shifted to the Government City Hospital.

A police contingent reached the area soon after the incident and launched a search for the attacker.

The official said that the police had also formed various teams to track down the attacker.
