Three Avatar animated films on the cards
Paramount and Nickelodeon are developing three animated films based on Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Lauren Montgomery will direct the first of the films, with Avatar co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Di Martino as producers, along with Eric Coleman. The trio of films will be produced by Avatar Studios, creating content spanning the animated series and movies based on the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
Avatar: The Last Airbender originally aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008. The series follows Aang, a young Avatar, or person with the ability to manipulate the elements. The Legend of Korra, a sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender, had a four-season run on Nickelodeon from 2012 to 2014.
Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical teaser trailer released
Netflix is giving a glimpse of the new film Matilda the Musical.
The streaming service shared a teaser trailer for the movie featuring Alisha Weir and Emma Thompson.
Matilda the Musical is based on the Roald Dahl novel Matilda and the 2010 musical adaptation.
“A brand-new take on the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical, Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical tells the story of an extraordinary girl, with a vivid imagination, who dares to take a stand to change her story with miraculous results,” an official description reads.
Thompson plays Miss Trunchbull, with Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey, Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough as Mr and Mrs Wormwood, and Sindhu Vee as Mrs Phelps.
The film premieres December 2 on Netflix.
Ryan Gosling will appear as Ken in Barbie movie
Warner Bros. shared a photo for the new film, Barbie, featuring Ryan Gosling.
In the photo, Gosling appears in costume as the character Ken. The actor sports platinum blonde hair and wears an open denim vest with matching jeans.
Ken is based on the doll from Mattel’s Barbie toy line. Margot Robbie will play Barbie. Previously, Warner Bros. shared a first photo of the actress as Barbie in April.
Barbie is written by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach and directed by Gerwig. The cast also features Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Simu Liu and Emma Mackey.
The film opens in theatres July 21, 2023.
