KOHAT: Social welfare organisations burnt 13 cows which died of lumpy skin disease and thrown in the open in Togh Bala and Tanda Dam areas by sprinkling petrol on them.

Eight cows were torched in Togh Bala and five in Tanda Dam areas as the dead animals were lying near the populated areas after being discarded by the owners.

The Togh youth welfare organisation appealed to the owners not to throw the dead animals in the open because they spread stench and disease, and destroy them by burning them.

The farmers are suffering losses to the tune of Rs150,000 to Rs200,000 each animal due the fast-spread of the skin disease in the areas.

The livestock department has constituted teams to check for such affected animals being sold in the cattle markets and at the butcher shops.
