THE Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences is the biggest facility of its kind in Balochistan where thousands of students from all over the province and even outside come to study. However, unfortunately, the college and the affiliated teaching hospital lack even the most basic facilities for students and young doctors.

For starters, there is an abject lack of boarding facilities for students and young doctors who are forced to rent rooms at expensive rates. The existing hostel often does not have a running water supply, both for washing and drinking purposes. Similarly, there are also no arrangements for the cleaning of hostel rooms and washrooms, creating seriously ugly living conditions.

Moreover, there is also no internet facility for students or doctors, making studies, communication and research difficult. It is in this background that a group of young doctors and students recently staged a sit-in in front of the university, but that has also failed to serve the purpose. The provincial authorities should pay heed to the young doctors’ demands and ensure the provision of basic facilities at the largest medical university in Balochistan.
