HYDERABAD: Sindh Abadgar Ittehad (SAI) has asked the provincial government to fix Rs4,000 support price of wheat crop for 2022-23 season failing which growers would only grow the grain for their own requirement and consumption.

SAI made the demand at a meeting held under chairmanship of its president Zubair Talpur on Wednesday. The meeting noted that the government was importing wheat at Rs4,400 per 40kg. It said that government was not offering the price it is paying for wheat’s import.

The meeting also expressed concern over falling cotton prices which dropped to Rs6,000 from Rs10,000 per 40kg. In addition to it, it regretted, deduction on cotton’s weight was also being made illegally.

SAI said textile mills association had itself demanded that cotton price should not be less than Rs8,000 per 40kg in view of increasing cost of production.
