ISLAMABAD, Dec 13: Pakistan Muslim League chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said on Tuesday that the time had come for political leaders to give up their personal ambition and take “bold and unpopular” steps in the larger interest of the country.

Speaking to reporters on his return from Saudi Arabia, Chaudhry Shujaat said the construction of dams should not be opposed for “petty personal gains” and “national interest should prevail over personal ambition”.

“The very idea that supporting the construction of Kalabagh dam would hurt us in the elections and we may not become MNAs or MPAs is nothing but personal ambition and greed,” he said.

He said “it does not matter even if we do not win elections, for the sake of Pakistan.”

The Pakistan Muslim League chief said those who took decisions against Pakistan’s interests and its people to prolong their hold on power could not be the well-wishers of the country.—APP
