Residents of phase VI of the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) seem to have become the proverbial children of some lesser god. The residents are left struggling on their own to do the needful despite paying all their utility bills on time. Apart from paying taxes, the residents are left with no option but to pay for things that are otherwise routine affairs in most civilised dispensations. The Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) and DHA administration seem to have failed to give relief to the residents on just about any count. If the two authorities have decided not to do anything, I wonder why they are charging so many and such exorbitant taxes.

PUBLIC INTEREST: Internal uncertainty coupled with the global financial crisis in the wake of Russia-Ukraine conflict has put the national economy under a significant strain. Challenging times mean leaders need to focus on the larger public good. Will they step ahead, please?

A UNIQUE PUNISHMENT: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) has punished me for complaining against receiving crumpled bills for quite some months. After I lodged the complaint, the PTCL stopped issuing bills against my residence. This is a rather unique way of punishing a complainant!

ELECTRICITY BREAKDOWNS: People of Gilgit-Baltistan seem to have been standing between the devil and the deep blue sea, with extreme summer on one side, and the constant hide and seek played by electricity on the other. One cannot do much about the weather, but a lot can be done to ensure regular, or at least streamlined power supply. However, nothing is done. For the students, the breakdowns mean utter disturbance in the academics. Besides, there are hundreds who depend on power supply to earn their livelihood. The government should fix the electricity issue on an urgent basis.
