Shia communities across the Muslim world on Tuesday commemorated the death of Imam Hussain on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram.
Yaum-i-Ashura is observed every year on Muharram 10 with solemnity to pay homage to Imam Hussain and other martyrs of the Battle of Karbala that took place in 61 A.H. in modern-day Southern Iraq.
In Pakistan, Ahsura processions were taken out in major cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Quetta amid tight security.
Men, women and children also took part in processions in India where local actors dressed as ancient warrior re-enacted scenes from the Battle of Karbala.
