PHF names 30 probables for camp

KARACHI, Jan 28: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Monday named Atif Bashir and Mohammad Nadeem in the 30-man probable list who will attend a training camp at Lahore from Jan 31.

The camp is being setup to select and prepare the team for next month’s World Cup in Kuala Lumpur. The event will run between Feb 24-Feb 9.

Atif and Nadeem had missed the six-nation tournament because of injuries. Also back in reckoning were Imran Rasool and Naveed Iqbal.

Hanif Khan, Pakistan coach, said the team was most likely to be selected by Feb 12 as it was scheduled to depart for Kuala Lumpur 10 days in advance. He said Pakistan would play a warmup game against Malaysia besides a couple against local clubs.

Hanif said although it was premature to comment on the composition of the team, but admitted Atif and Nadeem had excellent chance to reclaim their lost places.

Right-full-back: Sohail Abbas, Ali Raza and Asim Chohan

Left-full-back: Tariq Imran, Zeeshan Ashraf, Aamir Saleem

Right-halves: Mohammad Usman, Irfan Yousuf, Ghazanfar Ali

Centre-halves: Mohammad Saqlain, Imran Yousuf, Imran Rasool

Left-halves: Waseem Ahmad, Dilawar Hussain

Right-out: Mohammad Nadeem, Rehan Butt

Right-in: Mohammad Sarwar, Mudassar Ali Khan, S.Sameer

Centre-forward: Kashif Jawwad, Atif Bashir

Left-in: Naveed Iqbal, Saleem Khalid, Shahbaz Ahmad
