Mattel and Skydance prepping a live-action Matchbox movie

Mattel announced that it is working on a film based on Matchbox line of die-cast vehicles with Skydance Entertainment.

“For nearly 70 years, Matchbox has carried enormous cultural relevance and inspired generations of kids to unleash their imaginations, combining what they see in the world every day with what they dream their own world to be,” said Robbie Brenner, Executive Producer of Mattel Films. “We look forward to working with our incredible partners at Skydance Media to craft a story for the big screen that evokes the same, imaginative spirit of this beloved Mattel franchise and delights fans of all ages,” he said.

No release date is yet announced for the Matchbox movie.

Baby Shark on Paramount+ in 2023

Paramount+ has announced a feature-length, animated adventure called Baby Shark’s Big Movie! is set to premiere in late 2023.

Baby Shark will encounter an evil pop starfish named Stariana, who plans to steal his gift of song in order to dominate all underwater music, he must break her spell to restore harmony to the seas.

The preschool series, Baby Shark’s Big Show!, premiered in 2021 across Nickelodeon branded channels and platforms. It was recently renewed for a second season. The franchise began in 2015 when the adorable animated and live-action music video “Pinkfong Baby Shark” premiered on YouTube, then went on to become a phenomenon as the world’s first video to hit 10 billion views on the platform.

It remains the most-viewed clip in YouTube history.

Lady Gaga joins Joaquin Phoenix in Joker sequel

Lady Gaga has made it official. She’ll be starring opposite Joaquin Phoenix in director Todd Phillips’ sequel to Joker, the Oscar-winning, $1 billion-grossing, 2019 Warner Bros. hit based on the DC villain.

Gaga took to her Twitter account to raise the curtain on her appearance in Joker 2 — now called Joker: Folie à deux — alongside Phoenix with a short animated teaser.

Phillips has been writing the script with Joker co-writer Scott Silver and Warner Bros. has given a green light. Warner Bros. has set an October 4, 2024 release date.

Details on Gaga’s character are still under wraps.
