Massive blow for Pakistan as pace ace Shaheen Afridi ruled out of Asia Cup 2022

In what comes as a major setback, Pakistan’s star bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the T20 Asia Cup 2022 and the England home series, according to a press release issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday.
“Shaheen has been advised four to six weeks rest by the PCB Medical Advisory Committee and independent specialists following latest scans and reports,” the statement read.
It stated that the bowler is expected to return to competitive cricket in October with the New Zealand T20I tri-series, which will be followed by the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022.

Shaheen suffered a right knee ligament injury while fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle last month.
“I have spoken with Shaheen and he is understandably upset with the news, but he is a brave young man who has vowed to come back strongly to serve his country and team,” the press release quoted PCB Chief Medical Officer Dr Najeebullah Soomro as saying.
“Although he has made progress during his rehabilitation in Rotterdam, it is now clear he will require more time and is likely to return to competitive cricket in October.”
He said the PCB’s Sports and Exercise Medicine Department would be closely working with Shaheen over the coming weeks to ensure his safe return to competitive cricket.
The press release added that the player will stay with the squad to complete his rehabilitation. “His replacement for the Asia Cup will be announced shortly.”
Pakistan will arrive in Dubai on Monday.

PCB has run him into the ground at such early age. Why do people like Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen who are all three format players, have to play against Netherlands? Why not manage their workloads and ensure they only play the high profile series and ICC tournaments.

They’ve overplayed him. Playing him in all three formats in every single meaningless game and dead rubber. Because they’re too scared to lose to even the weakest teams. Had he been fit he’d have played all three ODI’s against Netherlands. It was bound to happen sometime. Meanwhile they refuse to give Dahani a chance.

Pakistan's bowling is definitely not up to mark. Shaeen Shah Afridi is a good bowler, but not a match winner like Imran, Wasim, or Waqar. Unfortunately, is no one else to take his place and fill the gap.

If we depend on two bowlers this is the kind of disappointing situation we have to face . In a tuff cricket competition at international level you always needs at least 4 world class bowlers so that if one gets injured you have the choice to pick one from the other 3. Rauf is primarily a short form cricket bowler, has good pace but in UAE conditions wickets are either flat or spinner friendly.

why you are targeting India only, boss ? I understand Pak cricket team is one of the best ones.
But Pak is no where close(and it will never be) to India, if you consider multiple sports of various types. Recent CWG/Olympics/ world events have proven again and again.

To all those, who is mocking Rohit Sharma and other Indian cricketers. We would LOVE to see Shaheen Afridi play the game, it is unfortunate he couldn't . We as Indians like to play with best talents not a weaker team and then win. I really hope he can play. Pakistan is putting lot of hope in ONE player like Shareen Afridi or Babar Azam. It was like Sachin Tendulkar era in Indian cricket. A game is won by team not individuals. Good Luck!
