DERA GHAZI KHAN: A Rescue 1122 worker lost his life while providing relief to the flood-stricken in Dera Ghazi Khan.

Asif Sukhaira was performing his flood relief duty in an area adjacent to Jamana Chandia village hit by Vadoor hill torrent when he felt suffocation and died on the spot. Sukhaira had underwent bypass operation a year and a half ago but he was performing his duty with dedication.

The Rescue 1122 has no proper service structure and there are reports of the employees working under stress. Being a patient, Sukhaira was neither declared medically unfit for rescue duty nor did he leave the department.

His funeral prayers were offered at the Model Town community centre and he was laid to rest with official protocol.

Earlier, revenue official Mukhtar had lost his life during flood relief duty in Dera Ghazi Khan.

DESTRUCTION: Scores of houses and the only water supply scheme of Basti Hamalwali have been badly affected by floodwater at Taman Qaisrani in Taunsa Sharif tehsil.

The floods have caused destruction and humans and animals are forced to drink dirty and contaminated water from a rainwater pond. Residents allege that the health department has not set up any medical camp. They demand that the government restore the water supply scheme.

Infrastructure of water supply has been damaged in the flood-affected areas of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur. Most areas are still submerged by floodwater.

A minor girl of DG Khan’s Yaru village drowned in a floodwater pond on Tuesday night, a Rescue 1122 official told Dawn.

Meanwhile, the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has waived the full semester fee of matriculation and FA (autumn 2022) students of the areas affected by recent floods. Also, half fee of ADA (BA) has been waived.

If a student has already submitted the fee, his/her fee will be adjusted in the next semester, says a press release.
