DERA GHAZI KHAN: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police committed suicide in Layyah on Friday after his appeal against dismissal from service was rejected.

ASI Asmatullah Aman was dismissed from service by the Layyah district police officer (DPO) over negligence in performance of duty in the month of June.

He had lodged an appeal against his dismissal with the regional police officer Dera Ghazi Khan. However, the appeal was rejected recently. According his relatives, he was under stress due to the loss of the job.

On Friday, Aman was present on the upper floor of his house where he shot himself with a pistol, a spokesperson for the south Punjab police said. He had joined the Punjab Police as a constable in 2001.
