LAHORE: PML-N candidate from PP-139, Sheikhupura, Iftikhar Ahmad Bhango has approached the Lahore High Court against the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) vis-à-vis delay in the by-poll in his constituency.

In his petition, the petitioner submitted that the ECP delayed the by-election in different constituencies on the pretext of flood.

However, he said, there had been no flood in his constituency but the ECP also delayed its by-poll, scheduled to be held on Sept 11. He argues that exercising the right to vote of all the citizens is protected under the Constitution but the ECP deprived them of their fundamental right.

The petitioner stated that all the arrangements for the by-poll had already been completed when the commission took the decision to delay the election three days before the polling day. He asked the court to set aside the decision of the ECP and order it to hold the by-poll in PP-139, Sheikhupura.
