MANSEHRA: The Abbottabad Circuit Bench of the Peshawar High Court has admitted to hearing the petition of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl leader Mufti Kifayatullah against his detention and fixed the hearing for today (Sept 14).

Justice Wiqar Ahmad and Justice Ijaz Anwar took the decision after listening to Mr Kifayatullah’s counsel Junaid Anwar.

The lawyer said the district police had arrested his client, his two sons, a driver and three traders for protesting the electrocution of a nanbai during the administration’s crackdown on polythene bags last week.

He complained that all detainees except for his client were freed on the orders of the deputy commissioner.

Mr Kifayatullah’s elder brother, Qazi Habibur Rehman, protested the continued detention of his family members.

He insisted that the arrests were politically motivated.

Meanwhile, the JUI-F leaders, who met here, demanded the immediate release of Mr Kifayatullah.
