RAWALPINDI: A team from Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) on Tuesday visited the Rawat police station and examined Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan’s squad vehicle which caught fire on the way back to Islamabad after a public rally in Gujrat on Sept 3, 2022.

The PFSA team accompanied by Saddar Division SP Ahmad Zunair Cheema and DSP visited the police station to ascertain the cause of fire. The experts collected some samples from the damaged vehicles, though it was intact from inside. They left the police station after some paperwork.

The real cause of the fire has not been established by the police or by the emergency service Rescue 1122. However, initially the police have presumed the cause of the fire was an electric short circuit.

A senior police official told Dawn that once the forensic report is received, the real cause of the fire will be ascertained. “It does not appear to be an act of sabotage, but the real cause of fire will become obvious following the PFSA report,” he added.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s squad car caught fire, apparently due to an electric short circuit, while returning to Islamabad after a public rally in Gujrat near Rawat police station on Sept 3.

No one was hurt or injured as the security personnel traveling in the vehicle jumped out of the vehicle.

The PTI chairman’s convoy continued its journey towards Islamabad; however, the damaged vehicle was taken off the G.T Road and parked outside the police station.

As the PFSA team left the scene after examining the burnt vehicle which was from Punjab House Islamabad, the vehicle was shifted inside the police station after 10 days. The PFSA team also expressed their concern over the parking of such an important vehicle in the open during the rainy season. Published in Dawn, September 15th, 2022
