KOHAT: A jirga of all sects, local government members and traders held here on Thursday regarding observance of Chehlum of Imam Husain demanded protection of life and property in view of threats being issued by terrorist organisations.

During the jirga held at the DC office, deputy commissioner Furqan Ashraf issued directives for peaceful observance of all congregations and meetings as the district had been declared sensitive.

The jirga was attended by Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat chairman former MNA Javed Ibraheem Paracha, Peshawar High Court’s former chief justice Syed Ibne Ali, caretaker of imambargahs Muharram Ali Shah, traders leader Abid Khan, former nazims, prominentShia and Sunni elders and local body councillors.

Mr Paracha demanded guarantees of peace during Chehlum from the administration as warnings were being issued by banned terrorist organisations. He said their properties should be protected at all costs.

He said outsiders should not be allowed to come to observe Chehlum in Kohat.

The caretaker of imambargahs said they would respect each other’s just demand about keeping the old route of mourners. He demanded foolproof security of imambargahs and mourners’ processions.

The traders’ president announced to keep all bazaars shut voluntarily in honour of the Chehlum.

The deputy commissioner said 3,200 personnel of the police, army and Frontier Constabulary had been called for keeping peace during the Chehlum.

WSSC CAMPAIGN: The Water Supply and Sanitation Company (WSSC) has launcheda campaign to mobilise people for timely payment of electricity bills and ensuring hygiene.

The company’s media adviser, Asma Ali, said in a statement on Thursday that residents were being sensitised about keeping themselves safe from diseases. She said the people were asked to lodge their complaints about water shortage at emergency number 1334 for their prompt redressal.
