The session was organised by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for environmental impact assessment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cities Improvement Project, funded by Asian Development Bank. The sewerage treatment plant is being rehabilitated under the project.

The scheme has been framed for the efficient and optimal management of sewerage of six urban union councils of Mardan including Bicket Gunj, Baricham, Guli Bagh, Hoti, Muslimabad and Rorya.

Under this scheme, the household’s sewerage lines will be connected with the plant to treat and reuse waste water for the irrigation purpose.

EPA Deputy Director Faridullah Shah said on the occasion that the event was meant to record the grievances, if any, of the locals to avoid any inconvenience and ensure the success of the scheme.

Dr Abdul Qayum, a technical expert, briefed the participants regarding the design, layout and infrastructure of the proposed project.

Imran Zaman, the manager of planning and projects at WSSCM, said that the scheme was of immense importance for Mardan city. He added that it would resolve the issues related to sanitation and management of waste water.
