KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf on Friday staged protest demonstrations across the city against growing inflation in the country.

The PTI leaders urged masses to join their campaign to topple “the imported government, which is the only way out for a prosperous and developing Pakistan”.

The party organised protests at Regal Chowk in Saddar, Teen Talwar in Clifton and Gulzar-i-Hijri in Scheme 33 where its leaders and elected representatives addressed the participants.

The opposition party leaders criticised the economic policies of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and questioned the spending of federal cabinet members on their personal comforts amid growing inflation in the country.

A large number of people, including women and children, attended the demonstrations.

The participants in protests carrying placards and banners chanted slogans against the government and in favour of the PTI.

“The conglomerate of incompetent rulers have destroyed the national economy and made the life of the common man miserable by unprecedented inflation,” said PTI Parliamentary Leader in Sindh Assembly Khurram Sher Zaman, while addressing the demonstration at the Regal Chowk.

“High inflation has made access to basic necessities impossible for majority of population and concerns are running high over the absence of a clear roadmap to combat the current situation. Relief and rehabilitation of flood-hit people is a collectively responsibility, but unfortunately here again we see the failure of the imported government.”

At the Clifton protest, PTI leaders asked the coalition government to announce fresh elections to bring the country out of crisis which was “deepening with each passing day”.

They expressed the resolve that the party would emerge victorious in the next general elections with a thumping majority with the support of the people of Pakistan.

“Imran Khan doesn’t represent a particular area or a province, he is the representative of the entire federation due to which his popularity and PTI has witnessed an unprecedented growth,” said Shahzad Qureshi, a PTI MPA in his address.

“The corrupt mafia has now resorted to empty slogans and political victimisation which is void of any truth. Every worker of PTI stands by with Imran Khan and will support him on every front. The PTI is the only national party, which has roots in every province and region.”
