KARACHI: A young man was shot dead near Awami Markaz on main Sharea Faisal in the small hours of Sunday in what police described as a suspected targeted attack.

SSP-East Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said Afaan Awais, 30, along with his friend, Danish, arrived near Awami Markaz and parked his vehicle outside a car showroom.

Quoting the statement of a witness who worked at a nearby puncture shop, the SSP said that two young men riding a motorbike reached there at around 12:30am from Karsaz side.

They stopped at the puncture shop and asked the witness about directions to Korangi. After getting information, they stopped their motorbike at some distance and later the witness heard the sound of gunshots.

The SSP said that the witness rushed to the scene and found Affan lying in a pool of blood on the road. He said his friend abandoned Affan and sped away.

The wounded was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared him dead.

Police Surgeon Sumayya Syed said that the victim was shot in the head from left side.

The SSP opined that the circumstantial evidences suggested that the murder might be linked with the motives other than a robbery.

Bahadurabad SHO Qurban Buledi said that the killers did not take away anything as his cell phone and other belongings were handed over to police by the lone witness.

The victim was a resident of Falcon Society and got married just two months ago, he added.

He said he met with the victim’s family for registration of a case. The heirs said they would lodge an FIR on Monday (today).
