KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a suspected militant, said to be linked with the outlawed Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, in a New Karachi area.

The CTD carried out a raid in Khamiso Goth, apprehended Mir Ali Haider alias Mir Ali Nawaz and recovered one pistol from his custody.

It said the held suspect was wanted in a terrorism case and declared as an absconder by a court in Mastung.

“Almost all his family members were affiliated with the banned LJ and involved in heinous crimes,” the CTD said, adding: “His brother, Jamal Khan, was killed by police in an encounter in Mastung in 2011.”

Another brother, Mubashir, was also shot dead in an encounter by the Quetta police in 2015. His third brother, Yasin, was also an active member of the LJ and went underground to avoid arrest.

The CTD said his fourth brother was allegedly hiding in Iran.

The suspect, Mir Ali, was wanted by the Balochistan police in heinous crimes since 2015.
