LAHORE: Owners of tandoors have unilaterally announced an increase in the prices of roti and naan, prompting the district administration to warn them of action against such price-hike.

The Muttahida Naan-Roti Association has announced selling one unit of roti for Rs15, a Rs3 increase from previous rate of Rs12, and of naan for Rs25, a Rs5 hike from its earlier rate of Rs20 per unit.

The association’s vice-president Waheed Abbasi regrets that the district administration failed to control the prices of wheat, flour and other grain products.

He says the association twice submitted applications with the deputy commissioner’s office, seeking an increase in the prices of their products in view of the hike in wheat flour and fine flour rates, but to no avail, forcing them to unilaterally increase the rates of naan and roti.

A spokesperson for the district administration has warned the association of legal action and sealing off tandoors in case of any unilateral increase in the prices.
