KARACHI: A fireman, who was shot at and wounded by armed assailants in a targeted attack on a Korangi fire station last week, died on Monday during treatment, police said.

On Oct 1, the assailants killed two firemen — Amir and Mehboob — and wounded 30-year-old Irshad in an attack police said aimed at spreading terror.

Awami Colony SHO Jamal Leghari said that Irshad was under treatment at a hospital as he had suffered a bullet wound in the head. He breathed his last on Monday, he added.

Police are still groping in the dark about the perpetrators and their exact motive despite passing three days to the attack.

Korangi SSP (Investigation) Arbaiz Ali Abbasi told Dawn that they had launched an investigation into the incident and it was being probed from every aspect, including terrorism.

He said that investigators had obtained CCTV footage from the fire station, but it did not contain recording of the incident.

The SSP said it had recording till Sept 28 while the killings took place between the night of Sept 30 and Oct 1.

It was being looked into as to whether the CCTV recording was deliberately switched off or it had developed some technical fault a day before the gruesome murder, he said, adding that they had also interrogated certain employees of the fire station.
