MARDAN: Khan Aziz Khan, the youngest son of Khan Bahadur Sarfaraz Khan of Mardan, was laid to rest on Wednesday at his family graveyard.
The Khan of Mardan, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday in his late 80s, was laid to rest next to his father, elder sister Begum Zari Sarfaraz (a renowned philanthropist), and brother Mir Afzal Khan, who served as chief minister of the erstwhile North-West Frontier Province.
Aziz Khan, a direct descendant of King Dost Mohammed Khan of Afghanistan, was the father of Abbas Sarfaraz Khan, a former federal minister for Kashmir and tribal affairs.
“The family made a great contribution in the economic uplift of their areas and was one amongst the first few noble families from the entire province who ventured into industry by owning the then largest Premier Sugar Mills and later founded two other major sugar mills in D.I. Khan as Chasma 1 and Chasma 2 as their flagship business,” said a press release issued on Wednesday.
There has been a widespread outpouring of condolences to the family, both internationally and nationally. Qul for the deceased will be held within the premises of the Premier Sugar Mills in Mardan on Friday (Oct 7) afternoon.
