KARACHI: The wife of slain Nazim Jokhio was allegedly assaulted by her brother-in-law on Thursday, according to a senior hospital official.

Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said that Ms Shireen Nazim Jokhio visited the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre with domestic violence history and complained that she was hit with hard and blunt objects by her brother-in-law in her home.

A woman medico-legal officer examined her and found that she had suffered three/four injuries, though minor, on her head and legs.

The police surgeon said Ms Shireen visited the medicolegal section at 4pm.

“She was physically examined and relevant investigations have been advised,” said Dr Syed, adding that she had swelling on the right side of forehead and left forearm.

Her husband, Nazim Jokhio, was allegedly kidnapped and beaten to death at the Malir residence of PPP lawmakers for filming their foreign guest hunting of houbara bustard on the outskirts of the city in the recent past.

The alleged murder had triggered widespread protests in Sindh, prompting authorities to take notice of the whole episode. Subsequently, one of the two accused lawmakers was arrested. Recently, Jokhio’s family has reportedly filed a compromise petition, which is pending before a court.
