There is no denying the fact that natural sounds and green environments have been linked with mental relaxation and overall health of humans. Ask yourself how many of you have closely observed the soothing chirp of a robin or the squawk of a parrot?

Sadly, these sounds go unnoticed as we are too engrossed in our lives that we never consider the beautiful aspects of nature around us.

But those of you interested in listening to the sounds of nature and the creatures inhabiting it can still catch up on them from the comfort of their home at www.earth.fm— a site with unique and never heard before sounds of nature from around the world, including the ones from the deep oceans.

Earth.fm features recordings of birds, animals and the environment. As you listen to these sounds, you begin to feel as if you are really present in the wild.

The site is very clean, with no ads at all. The home screen features a world map where you can see tiny hearts at various places. These hearts describe a particular area and the associated sound with it. On top of the map, you are given five categories with a drop-down list to choose from such as from “Moods,” you can further select calm, dreamy, eerie, energising, intense, etc. From “Duration,” you can set the duration of the sound that you want to listen to from 10 to 80+ minutes.

From “Dominant Sound”, you can select from mammals, rain, sea, thunder, water sounds, wind, etc. And from “Habitat,” you can choose the region such as Arctic, boreal forest, desert or arid, forests, grasslands, tundra heath, etc. Lastly, there is a list of artists who have recorded these natural sounds in the “Recordist” category, choose any and see tiny hearts appear on the map showing you the origin and the recording of that artist.

If you don’t want to get into the tabs and the details, you can hover over the location points on the world map to view the title and view information about the nature of the recording, a picture of the organism featured, a link to the recordist and videos, and a ‘Listen’ button to play the recording. Zoom in and out to see locations all around the world.

Earth.fm is a non-profit initiative developed by Digital Partnership for Regeneration and Reconnection MTÜ, a Non-Profit Organisation guided by principles rooted on altruism, scientific evidence and the systemic view of nature.

So if you have no idea of what sounds hippos make in the pond or how whales communicate with each other in the deep ocean, just stop by earth.fm and be mesmerised with unique sounds of nature and the creatures in it.
