LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) claimed on Thursday to have collected Rs42.899 billion during the first quarter of the ongoing 2022-23 fiscal year -- a 31 per cent growth than the last year’s corresponding period that witnessed Rs32.706bn collection.

According to a spokesperson for the authority, the current fiscal year’s first quarter remained satisfactory as it recorded 31.10pc, 41.22pc and 17.63pc increase in revenue for the months of July, August and September, respectively.

During the last month (September) of the quarter, the PRA collected an amount of Rs14.248bn which is 18pc higher than the last year.

“The persistent growth in PRA’s collection clearly reflects success of Punjab government’s policy of facilitation and collaboration with stakeholders. This also seems to be promising in achieving the budgetary target of Rs190bn assigned by the Punjab government,” said the spokesperson in a statement.

It merits mentioning that during the first quarter, the PRA did not adopt any coercive measure and relied solely on stakeholders engagement and taxpayers education that resulted in expanding the tax base as over 2,500 new taxpayers were registered on a voluntary basis.
