PESHAWAR, Dec 24: The 6th edition of the NWFP karate championship will commence from Monday in different categories at Qayyum Sports Complex, secretary general NWFP Karate Association Shiekh Mansoor said on Saturday.

He said that teams from Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Kohat, Mardan, Swat, Abbottabad, Tank, Lakki Marwart and host Peshawar will vie for the honours.

Host Peshawar will defend the title he said, adding he was also expecting good show from the Abbottabad players as the championship will have an Under-16 category alongside main category.

During the campionship players would be selected to represent NWFP in the forthcoming 15th national karate championship scheduled to be held from Dec 29 at Karachi.

He said that the team will leave for Karachi on December 27.

The NWFP karate championship main category, will be fought in 50 kg, 55 kg, 60 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 75 kg, 80 kg, 80 plus and individual Katta group and will be played under World Karate Federation rules.

While in the Under-16 category, the players will be competing in 50 kg, and 55 kg while individual kata will also held.—APP
