World’s largest bobblehead unveiled

A Pennsylvania-based store chain celebrated its 40th anniversary by breaking a Guinness World Record with a bobblehead figure measuring 16 feet, 6.73 inches high.

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet unveiled the giant bobblehead, made in the image of store mascot Ollie, at the chain’s flagship location in Harrisburg. Guinness World Records rules required the bobblehead to be an oversized replica of an existing model, which Ollie’s sells as a promotional item.

The team behind the giant bobblehead used 3D modelling, hand sculpting, carving and painting to create the fully-functional bobblehead over the course of four months.

Snake breeder unveils two-headed albino milk snake

A North Carolina snake breeder unveiled one of the newest and most unusual additions to his menagerie: a two-headed Honduran albino milk snake.

Jimmy Mabe of Farmer said the young snake has two heads that share one set of lungs and a stomach. He said both heads appear to be functional.

“The right side is a little more aggressive than the left,” Mabe told. “They do have a different mind to go in a different direction than the other. The two heads are still figuring out how to coexist.”

Mabe said the public will be able to meet his unusual snake at the Repticon Show coming to Charlotte’s Cabarrus Arena in the ongoing month.

British artist covers entire mansion in doodles

A British artist, known as Mr Doodle, took two years to cover every inch of his 12-room mansion in doodles. Mr Doodle, aka Sam Cox, unveiled “The Doodle House” in a time-lapse YouTube video showing his process of transforming the Tenterden, Kent, mansion into an art project.

Cox’s mansion is now covered inside and out in the artist’s doodles, including surfaces such as the kitchen appliances and his bed sheets.

Cox used about 240 gallons of white paint on the inside of his house and 401 cans of black spray paint for the outside, to create a surface for his drawings, which were made with 2,296 pens.

He will live full-time at the Doodle House with his wife. Alena, aka Mrs Doodle, and their dog.

Chinese vase worth $1,900 sold for $9 million

A Chinese vase has sold for $9 million, nearly 4,000 times its estimated value, at Osenat auction house in Fontainebleau, near Paris. The blue and white Tianqiuping-style porcelain vase was part of a consignment of items taken from the owner’s late grandmother’s house in Brittany, north-western France.

CNN reported, “A total of 30 bidders, each of whom was required to make a deposit in order to participate, emerged from the 300-400 individuals who first expressed interest in placing a bid. There were 15 bidders total.”

According to The Guardian, the bidders, who were primarily Chinese, were certain that the vase was a priceless piece of 18th century art. The name tianqiuping, which means “celestial sphere vase” comes from the shape of the vase.
