SWABI: About 250 families of poor farmers whose crops were destroyed by recent hailstorm and rain in the district were given food ration worth Rs1.4 million here on Saturday.

Briefing mediapersons, Jamaat-i-Islami district chief Mian Iftikharuddin Bacha and Al-Khidmat Foundation district head Wajid Ali Shah said that the decision in this regard was taken after a damage assessment survey in the district. They said crops of these small farmers were severely damaged by hailstorm and they suffered financial losses.

Mr Bacha and Mr Shah said it was observed that none of these farmers was not in a position to arrange two-time meal for their families as their financial position had been weakened by the losses.

They said that successive governments had been terming agriculture the backbone of country’s economy, but they failed to help the poor farmers.

ARRESTED: The police here have arrested a man and brother-in-law of his wife for killing her for honour by feeding her poisonous pills and pretending that she had committed suicide, said district police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan.

DSP Iftikhar Ali Khan told this correspondent thata suicide report of Shaheen Begum was registered by her husband Samad Khan in Topi city police station on Sept 23, 2022, claiming that she had taken poisonous pills to end her life.

During investigations, Sher Wali revealed he came to know days after the incident that his daughter was killed by her husband and brother-in-law.

Recording his statement in a local court, Sher Wali said his daughter was having domestic problems with her husband for a long time.
