ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will formally announce government measures for the reconstruction and rehabilitation phase for the post-flood recovery of affected districts on Oct 24, the Planning Commission said on Saturday.
The announcement came after the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment of the damages and losses in the wake of catastrophic floods that hit Pakistan in August has been completed by the planning and development division in collaboration with the World Bank, ADB, EU and UN.
Addressing a roundtable on the sidelines of the World Bank-IMF annual meetings on Friday, Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal shared some of the report’s key findings.
“It is the time for the richest people of the world to help the poorest people of Pakistan who are the victims of the development in the advanced world,” he said.
The UK PM’s special representative, Nigel Casey, recalled that while international response so far has been rapid and extensive., “this crucial humanitarian aid alone will be insufficient for Pakistan’s recovery, and building back to a stronger, more resilient position must be at the forefront of our minds.”

What is the contribution from richest people of Pakistan? Always finding excuses and blames on me there on your own failures. Pakistan could not build even decent infra to partially avoid the destruction from the floods and now blames the world for the losses. What a shame!

Question is what the riches people of the Pakistan is doing and will be doing for the Pakistani's before reaching out to the world? Pakistani's within and outside Pakistan is slient. The rich Pakistani;s should set examples for others to do something in the hour of need. It was very sad story that when these affected people needs the help of the Paksitan, people are busy with their political campaign. Vey insensitive. Sending wrong message to the world.

It’s long past the time for the richest people in Pakistan including politicians, businessmen, judges and generals to pay for their petrol, electricity, water and gas as well as their taxes. Some years ago I heard of how ‘aid’ is used: example.
USAID informs fed govt that a $25M grant is being made for education in Pakistan. Senior staff plans a world tours to ‘learn’ how others do education. They will give consulting contracts to family and friends. Establish conferences. Invite speakers. By the time this is all done only $2m are left for the TRUE purpose.
I am afraid that is the model for the ‘flood relief’ aid.
