SAHIWAL: Muneeza Hashmi and her son Adeel Hashmi visited Faiz Ahmad Faiz Ward in the Central Prison on Tuesday.
The visit was facilitated by Jail Superintendent Noor Hasan Bhegla and Sahiwal Arts Council Director Riaz Hamdani.
Faiz Ahmad Faiz spent a major part of his four and-a-half year imprisonment in the Rawalpindi Conspiracy Case at Sukkur and Sahiwal prisons. At that time, it was called Montgomery Prison and Faiz was imprisoned in Gora Ward.
Faiz had written his famous poetry book “Zindan Nama” during his imprisonment at Montgomery prison.
Speaking to Dawn, Muneeza said the Faiz Foundation was invited to participate in a conference going to be held in the first week of November at the art council. Tuesday’s visit was meant to make arrangements for a visit to Faiz Ward of the conference delegates and international guests, she said.
They requested the Faiz Foundation to renovate the ward and adorn it with pictures, books and paintings related to that specific period, she said.
Mr Bhegla said the idea was yet to be finalised by the Prison Department. He said he was confident that Faiz Ward would be renovated and preserved for future generations.
