KOHAT: A child protection court on Tuesday gave custody of a few-month-old abandoned baby girl to a local elder on two surety bonds .

An official of the police’s child protection desk, Hassan Qureshi said the Khushalgarh police had found the baby lying beside a wall of a government school in far-flung Shadipur area on October 14.

Additional Sessions Judge-VI, Farhana Tabassum, who is also the child protection court judge, handed over the child to the elder in the presence of in-charge of the child protection desk, Faizullah Khan, focal person Hussain Quershi and two guarantors.

Local elder Ajmal Shah had moved the court for the custody of the child, after which the court had asked him to submit two sureties of Rs500,000 each for getting custody of the minor.

APPOINTED: A separate DSP security has been appointed to ensure effective implementation of standard operating procedures and enhance security of important installations.

A statement issued on Tuesday said district police officer Shafiullah Gandapur had asked DIG Kohat division Tahir Ayub for appointment of much-needed DSP security. He took up the matter with the provincial police authorities, who approved the same.

The newly-appointed head of security, DSP Hussain Ghulam, soon after taking charge, visited various educational institutions, banks and other sensitive installations and directed the management to strictly follow the safety measures.

WOMAN HELD WITH HASHISH: The police arrested a woman from a passenger coach at the tunnel toll plaza on Tuesday while trying to smuggle hashish from Peshawar to Lakki Mawrat on Tuesday.

SHO Saddar police station Qismat Khan and his team were checking vehicles when a woman constable found six kilogrammes of hashish wrapped to the body of Shirin Bibi, a resident of Serai Naurang area of Lakki.

She was moved to the police station where a case was registered against her. She admitted she had taken hashish from the Khyber district.
