HYDERABAD, Dec 26: The People’s Party Parliamentarians, Hyderabad chapter, has accused authorities of harassing its candidates for seats of district and taluka naib nazims of Hyderabad.

The election is scheduled to be held on Dec 28.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Monday, Hyderabad city PPP president MPA Zahid Ali Bhurgari said that notwithstanding harassment against the party, it would not leave the ground open for government candidates. He said telegrams had been sent to the Election Commission to take notice of the pre-poll rigging.

He said the party had nominated Yamin Soomro for the seat of naib nazim of the district, Mir Mohammad Ashraf for the Hyderabad taluka (rural) and Haider Shahani for the Qasimabad taluka. He said the nominations had been made with the approval of Sindh party president Syed Qaim Ali Shah. He added that candidates for City and Qasimabad talukas would be nominated within the next few hours.

Mr Bhurgari urged President Gen Pervez Musharraf to concentrate his energies on rehabilitation of earthquake-hit people, instead of wasting time on the Kalabagh dam.

He also demanded that the operation in Balochistan should be stopped forthwith.

UNIVERSITY: A two-member committee on Monday presented its report to University of Sindh vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui in connection with problems of university employees.

The committee submitted the report after meeting representatives of the employees.
