GILGIT: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Wednesday approved the Regional Grid Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Phase-I project.

The meeting of CDWP was held in Islamabad and chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. GB Additional Chief Secretary Development and Secretary Water and Power represented GB in the meeting.

The project, costing Rs17 billion, will be completed in next three years and power distribution system of Gilgit, Ghizer, Hunza, Nagar and Astore would be connected through the grid.

According to a statement issued by GB chief secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani the issue of line losses and voltage drop would be minimised and electricity provided to far-flung areas after the project’s completion.
